NHL Trade Deadline Day Passes: Big Three moved

The NHL’s trade deadline came and went yesterday and the big three of Thomas Vanek, Martin St. Louis and Ryan Callahan have moved on to new teams.

The biggest trade of the day occurred between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Rangers. The deal sent Rangers captain Ryan Callahan to Tampa for captain Martin St. Louis, also included in the deal was a 2015 first round pick and a conditional 2014 second round pick joining Callahan in Tampa.

New York’s other team the New York Islanders finally traded Thomas Vanek to the Montreal Canadians for a prospect and a pick.

Martin Brodeur, the all-time winningest goaltender in the history will remain with the New Jersey Devils. New Jersey though did make a deal trading little used forward Andrei Loktionov and a conditional third round pick to the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Tuomu Ruutu.

Some other deals made include Jaroslav Halak being sent to the Captials, David Legwand going to Detroit, the Los Angeles Kings added Marion Gaborik, Matt Moulson joins the Minnesota Wild and Ales Hemsky joins the Ottawa Senators who also resigned defenseman Chris Phillips.
